At the highest level, this role is responsible to the National Director for Education (himself a former Regional Director) for the education outcomes and standards of the academies in the North. You'll line-manage a group of academy Principals, providing support, challenge and guidance as appropriate. It's also important that you monitor and oversee the effective delivery of central services to academies, as well as liaising with stakeholders including RSC and DfE colleagues. Moreover, you will be the advocate of the OAT ethos and purposes at a regional level, and you'll create a strong connection with, and sense of belonging to, the OAT family of academies.

We want to encourage applications from consistently successful senior education leaders, with the full repertoire of professional experience (including learning from adversity) and who are hungry to apply their expertise on a bigger canvas. Experience of leading education and school improvement in a regional or multi school capacity is essential, and will be underpinned by a detailed knowledge of how schools work. Evidence of driving and embedding change is also important, and strong candidates will show the ability to think creatively, engage others in developing solutions and inspire others to achieve goals. Knowing how to build, grow and sustain relationships in complex contexts is non-negotiable.
Good interpersonal and organisational skills are a must, and you will be able to self-manage and set your own schedule. You must be able to travel independently across the region, and there will be some non-standard working hours; but your grasp of the potential of this role will carry you and others towards shared objectives. Deeply committed to improving the life chances of pupils through transformational change in schools, your integrity and personal credibility will inspire those around you. Never complacent, but always decisive, your professional humility will ensure that you're always listening, and always open to new ideas and perspectives.
